Clara McKinley: range, speed and little spare weight.

Clara is a mobile sharpshooter with ranged damage, dodge and stealth bonuses, balanced by the lowest published Encumbrance in the current roster.

Best for: ranged players who prefer to scout, reposition and avoid trading damage. Clara rewards route control, but her 70 Encumbrance makes loot selection and extraction timing especially important.

Who is Clara McKinley?

Clara is described as a ranch-raised sharpshooter who protects miners from wolves and bandits. Her bonuses combine ranged damage with movement, sprinting, dodge and stealth, giving her more ways to choose the distance of an encounter than a stationary damage specialist.

Her bonuses touch several systems, but the base stats are tight. Low Health limits bad trades and low Encumbrance reduces the amount of equipment and loot she can carry without difficult decisions.

Practical build direction

Prioritize a reliable ranged weapon, ammunition efficiency and traits that preserve distance or reduce carry pressure. Mine selectively rather than filling every slot. Clara is strongest when mobility prevents damage; if an expedition repeatedly turns into close melee, her published strengths are not being used.

Field note

Build around an exit route as carefully as a firing line. A fast Pioneer with an overloaded pack can lose the advantage that made the route safe.

Practical expedition use

Use Clara for a distance-first route where movement, ranged pressure and stealth can reduce unnecessary contact. Her published bonuses point toward a fast sharpshooter, but the lower Health, Energy and Encumbrance values make preparation important. Keep the expedition short until you know how much ammunition, food and recovery capacity your current build consumes.

Mobility rule: judge Clara by contact avoided and a completed return, not by distance traveled alone. Her bonuses do not confirm hidden damage, loot or payout effects.

When does Clara’s mobility matter?

Clara is a good choice when the route rewards choosing distance before the fight begins. Her movement, sprint, dodge and stealth bonuses all point toward changing position rather than absorbing damage. That direction is most useful on a short route with a known exit and a deliberately light pack. Her 70 Encumbrance means every extra tool or ammunition stack competes directly with recovery supplies and loot.

Compared with Wyatt, Clara trades a large amount of Health, Energy and carrying capacity for mobility tools. Compared with Jane, she publishes more ranged damage and sprint speed but lacks Jane’s chopping focus and balanced 90/100/100 base line. The route should decide between them: select Clara for distance control, Wyatt for a more forgiving combat load, or Jane for wood-heavy field work.

  • Plan first: establish the return path before collecting.
  • Pack rule: one primary job, not every possible tool.
  • Abort signal: when close melee becomes routine, the route is no longer using Clara’s strengths.
