Who is Russell Greeneberry?
The official profile describes Russell as a Colorado prospector who can recognize paydirt and work bedrock quickly. His custom pack supports the practical part of that fantasy: 120 Encumbrance gives him one of the largest listed carrying capacities in the current roster.

Russell can carry more than Clara, Wade or Nellie, but his 85 Health does not make him a front-line tank. The stealth and dodge bonuses are valuable because avoiding a costly encounter protects the haul he is built to collect.
Practical build direction
Use Russell for planned mining loops with a known extraction route. Favor mining efficiency, pack management and enough melee reliability to survive an interrupted dig. Extra capacity should hold profitable supplies and loot, not encourage an expedition to stay out after its safe exit window has closed.
Field note
A large pack increases opportunity and risk at the same time. Decide what you will abandon before the route becomes an emergency.
Practical expedition use
Use Russell for a resource-focused route when carrying capacity and mining speed are more valuable than a forgiving mistake budget. His published bonuses strongly suggest a haul-building role, but the page does not turn Mining Speed into a guaranteed Gold result. Set a carrying limit before leaving camp so the advantage does not become an excuse to stay out past a safe extraction window.
Mining rule: record starting weight, work completed and returned weight on the same route. Mining Speed is not evidence of a better Gold location or payout rate.
Russell, Bob or Nellie for gathering?
Russell has the clearest mining-and-carrying direction: +25% Mining Speed and 120 Encumbrance. Boomstick Bob also lists 120 Encumbrance, but spreads his gathering value across mining and chopping while adding ranged and defense bonuses. Nellie lists smaller mining and chopping bonuses, only 90 Encumbrance, and a much larger 120 Energy pool. None of those profiles proves a higher Gold return.
Choose Russell when a known mining route and carrying space are the main requirements. Choose Bob when the route mixes wood, mining and heavier tools. Choose Nellie when activity duration and flexible field work matter more than maximum pack size. For a useful comparison, record the same starting supplies, target resource and extraction method; otherwise a better map roll can look like a better Pioneer.
