Why does extraction matter?
The game’s risk is not finished when you find Gold Grains. The official FAQ says you must successfully extract your Pioneer before the balance is available in the Game Lobby. That makes the return route part of the prospecting decision, not a separate menu action.
Option one: the Steamer
The Steamer arrives several days into an expedition and can be found at the dock on the southern coast. You need a ticket from a mining camp; the official FAQ says tickets may be earned through harvesting resources, completing quests or finding them in the landscape.
- Plan for the southern coast before you are overloaded or low on energy.
- Keep the ticket requirement in mind when deciding how much time to spend deeper inland.
- Do not confuse reaching the dock with automatically leaving; extraction still requires the route to be completed.
Option two: the Coastal Signal Fire
The Signal Fire is on the western coast. Lighting it can attract a rescue launch, but the fire also announces your position to nearby enemies. This is the more exposed option: prepare to fight, and do not begin the sequence with an empty health bar.
Field rule: choose the exit before the gold
Before you dig, identify which coast or camp your route can realistically reach. If the answer is “neither,” the find may be worth less than the risk of carrying it.
