Fatal Frontier 1869 quests and rewards.

Use quests to discover the frontier, face structured objectives and earn useful resources—but judge every reward against the route home.

Direct answer: quests can have one or more objectives shown in the right-side Quest Panel. They encourage exploration, combat and resource decisions, and may reward special items, Greenbacks, Claims, tickets or exchangeable goods depending on the current quest.

How do quests work?

The official FAQ says a quest concludes after all of its required objectives are completed. The Quest Panel on the right side of the game shows the active quest and which objectives remain outstanding. A multi-stage quest can therefore look unfinished even after one visible task succeeds.

Read every objective before leaving a safe location. A kill, harvest, travel and return requirement may demand different tools and reserve capacity.

Where do you find quests?

Open Range contains quests and discoverable locations. The August 19, 2026 patch notes added new Points of Interest that reveal quests and loot. Mining Camps, towns, Trading Posts and named encounters are the most sensible places to inspect, but the current public sources do not publish a complete quest-giver list.

  • Visit new Points of Interest.
  • Read prompts in camps and town.
  • Keep first-time tips enabled while learning.
  • Check the Quest Panel after an encounter.
  • Leave room for a reward item.
  • Record the route back to trade or extract.

“May” and “certain” matter. Do not assume a reward until the live quest panel shows it, and do not publish a fixed reward table without in-game evidence.

How should you plan a quest route?

  1. Read every objective and note the destination.
  2. Check health, energy, ammunition, rations and tool durability.
  3. Identify the nearest camp, Trading Post and extraction option.
  4. Decide which optional fights can be avoided.
  5. Reserve carrying capacity for the objective and reward.
  6. Turn back when the return budget becomes uncertain.

Field rule: the reward must survive the route

A rare item has no practical value if an avoidable encounter leaves the Pioneer unable to reach a trader or extraction.

What is the John Bannon encounter?

The August 19 patch notes warn that killing enough of John Bannon’s men can cause him to come looking for the Pioneer. This is a confirmed reactive encounter, but the developer does not publish the exact kill threshold, spawn timer, full reward table or safest counter-strategy.

Treat repeated bandit kills as escalation, especially on a higher-level Pioneer who can also face Savage and Enraged enemies. Keep a reserve and an exit rather than relying on an invented trigger count.

Which Pioneer and loadout are best for quests?

There is no universal quest build. A long travel objective values movement and energy; a combat objective values damage, health and defense; a hauling objective values Encumbrance; a stealth route values avoidance. Choose around the objective that can fail, not the reward description.

Compare the Pioneer roster, Traits & Loadouts and Tools & Equipment before departing.

Frequently asked questions

Do all quests give Greenbacks?

No. The patch notes confirm Greenbacks can be earned from quest rewards, not that every quest pays them.

Can quests give free Claims?

Certain quests can, according to the FAQ. Check the current reward before starting.

Are quests required to play?

Open Range is free-form, but quests provide direction, items and reasons to explore. A Steamer ticket can also be earned through other published routes.

Is there a complete quest list?

Not yet. The game is changing during Early Access and public source data is incomplete.
